Put Your Foot On The Gas!

Time for companies to accelerate climate actions, not reduce them….

Energy giant BP this week announced, amid record annual profits, that it has scaled back its plans for its 2030 carbon emissions targets, in relation to its oil and gas output.

While the argument put forward by boss Bernard Looney, that BP is helping provide the world with the energy it needs (and still investing in the transition to green energy), is understandable, BP’s target of net zero by 2050 is now going to require a massive effort given the previous promise of a 35-40% reduction by 2030 has now been replaced by a 20-30% decrease.

A timely reminder then to all business owners of the need to focus on a net zero strategy, and stick to the original promises and timescales as much as is possible.
